Cookies Policy

How filemybooks.com uses cookies and similar tracking technologies — Google Analytics, Meta Pixel, Meta CAPI, and Hotjar — and how you can manage them.

1

Introduction

Indian Startup School Private Limited ("Company", "we", "us", "our"), operating File My Books at filemybooks.com, uses cookies and similar tracking technologies on our Platform to improve your experience, understand how our Platform is used, and deliver relevant communications.

This Cookies Policy explains what cookies are, what types we use, why we use them, which third-party tools we use, and how you can manage your cookie preferences.

By continuing to use our Platform after being presented with our cookie consent banner, you consent to the use of cookies as described in this Policy.

2

What are cookies

Cookies are small text files that are placed on your device (computer, tablet, or mobile) when you visit a website. They are widely used to make websites work efficiently, remember your preferences, and provide analytical information to website operators.

Similar technologies we also use include:

  • Pixels — tiny invisible images embedded in web pages or emails that track user behaviour and conversions
  • Local storage — data stored in your browser that persists between sessions
  • Session storage — temporary data stored in your browser for the duration of a single session
  • Event tracking scripts — code that captures specific user interactions such as button clicks, form submissions, and page scrolls
3

Types of cookies we use

3.1 Strictly Necessary Cookies

These cookies are essential for the Platform to function. They enable core features such as logging in, accessing your dashboard, completing payments, and maintaining your session security. These cookies cannot be disabled as the Platform will not function without them.

Examples: Session authentication, CSRF protection tokens, load balancing cookies.

3.2 Analytics and Performance Cookies

These cookies help us understand how visitors interact with our Platform — which pages are visited most, where users drop off, how long they spend on each section, and how they navigate through our services. This data is used in aggregate to improve Platform performance and user experience.

Tools used: Google Analytics, Hotjar

3.3 Marketing and Advertising Cookies

These cookies track your activity across our Platform and other websites to help us understand the effectiveness of our advertising campaigns, retarget visitors who have shown interest in our services, and measure conversions from our ad spend.

Tools used: Meta Pixel, Meta Conversions API (CAPI)

3.4 Behaviour and Heatmap Cookies

These cookies record how users interact with specific elements on our pages — including mouse movements, clicks, scrolls, and form interactions. This data is used to identify usability issues and optimise our Platform design and conversion flows.

Tools used: Hotjar

3.5 Functional Cookies

These cookies remember your preferences and settings to provide a more personalised experience. They may include language preferences, dashboard layout settings, and previously entered form data.

Third-party tools and what they collect

Below is a detailed breakdown of every third-party tracking tool active on our Platform:

4.1
Google Analytics
Provider
Google LLC
Purpose
Website traffic analysis, user behaviour tracking, session data, page performance measurement, and conversion tracking.
Data collected
Pages visited, time on site, device and browser type, geographic location (city-level), referral source, and user journey through the Platform.
Data sent to
Google servers (USA). Google processes data under its own privacy framework and Standard Contractual Clauses.
Retention
Up to 14 months by default (configurable).
4.2
Meta Pixel
Provider
Meta Platforms, Inc.
Purpose
Tracking visits to our Platform from Meta ads (Facebook and Instagram), measuring ad campaign effectiveness, building custom audiences for retargeting, and tracking conversion events such as sign-ups and purchases.
Data collected
Pages visited, actions taken (button clicks, form submissions, purchases), IP address, browser information, and hashed personal identifiers where provided.
Data sent to
Meta servers (USA).
Retention
As per Meta's data retention policy.
4.3
Meta Conversions API (CAPI)
Provider
Meta Platforms, Inc.
Purpose
Server-side event tracking that complements the Meta Pixel. CAPI sends conversion events directly from our server to Meta, improving the accuracy of conversion data especially where browser-based tracking is limited by ad blockers or browser restrictions.
Data collected
Hashed email addresses, hashed phone numbers, IP addresses, and conversion event data (purchases, sign-ups, lead submissions). All personally identifiable data is hashed before transmission using SHA-256 encryption.
Data sent to
Meta servers (USA).
Important note
CAPI operates at the server level and is not controlled by browser cookie settings. If you wish to opt out of Meta tracking entirely, please use the Meta Ad Preferences link above.
4.4
Hotjar
Provider
Hotjar Ltd (Malta)
Purpose
Heatmaps, session recordings, scroll maps, and user behaviour analysis. Hotjar helps us understand how users navigate and interact with our Platform so we can improve design and usability.
Data collected
Mouse movements, clicks, scrolls, keystrokes in non-sensitive fields, device and browser type, and session recordings. Hotjar automatically masks sensitive fields including passwords and payment inputs.
Data sent to
Hotjar servers (EU).
Retention
Session recordings retained for up to 365 days.

Cookie consent banner

When you first visit filemybooks.com, you will be presented with a cookie consent banner that gives you the following options:

  • Accept All — enables all cookies including analytics, marketing, and behaviour tracking
  • Accept Necessary Only — enables only strictly necessary cookies; all analytics and marketing cookies are disabled
  • Manage Preferences — allows you to enable or disable each category of cookies individually

Your preferences are saved and respected on all subsequent visits. You can change your preferences at any time by clicking the "Cookie Preferences" link in the footer of our website.

6

How to manage and disable cookies

In addition to our consent banner, you can manage cookies through your browser settings:

  • Google Chrome: Settings → Privacy and Security → Cookies and other site data
  • Mozilla Firefox: Settings → Privacy & Security → Cookies and Site Data
  • Safari: Preferences → Privacy → Manage Website Data
  • Microsoft Edge: Settings → Cookies and Site Permissions

Please note that disabling certain cookies may affect the functionality of our Platform. Strictly necessary cookies cannot be disabled through browser settings without impacting your ability to use the Platform.

For mobile devices, cookie management settings are typically found under your browser app's privacy or settings menu.

7

Do not track signals

Some browsers offer a "Do Not Track" (DNT) setting that sends a signal to websites requesting that your browsing not be tracked. Currently, there is no universally accepted standard for responding to DNT signals. Our Platform does not alter its behaviour in response to DNT signals at this time. We encourage you to use our cookie consent banner to manage your preferences explicitly.

8

Important note on Meta Conversions API

We want to be fully transparent about our use of Meta CAPI. Unlike browser-based cookies which you can block or delete, CAPI operates at the server level, meaning it sends data directly from our servers to Meta regardless of your browser cookie settings.

The data transmitted via CAPI is limited to hashed conversion events and does not include raw personally identifiable information. All data is hashed using SHA-256 before transmission.

If you wish to limit Meta's use of your data for advertising purposes, we recommend:

9

Data transfers outside India

Some of the third-party tools listed in this Policy (Google, Meta, Hotjar) may transfer and store data on servers outside India, including in the United States and the European Union. These transfers are carried out under appropriate data protection frameworks including Standard Contractual Clauses and the respective providers' privacy compliance programmes.

We ensure that all third-party providers we engage with maintain adequate data protection standards consistent with applicable Indian law including the DPDP Act, 2023.

10

Updates to this policy

We may update this Cookies Policy from time to time as we add or remove third-party tools or as legal requirements change. Any material changes will be communicated via a notice on our Platform with an updated effective date.

We encourage you to review this Policy periodically to stay informed about how we use cookies.
